Graffiti for Tots

Today was my only day off, AND payday, and as my younger sister was in town after finishing up finals week at HSU, I accompanied her and my nephew to a local park. A few years back the entire town got together and pitched in to build a sprawling, warren-like structure for the children which they named kidstown . It's one of the few really cool things in Crescent City, despite the fact that it was constructed almost entirely out of pressure-treated lumber, which is full of carcinogenic compounds.
It was a beautiful day, with huge thunderheads rolling by like airborne warships en route to faraway bombardment. While playing hide and seek in the play structure with my sister and her son, I noticed that someone had written some nasty graffiti in conspicuous locations. I'm thinking, luckily most of the kids can't read this stuff. Then I wondered why no one had sanded it off. I took some photos with the intention of showing the Parks and Recreation Department the vandalism and hopefully getting someone to remove it.
Some of it is actually kind of funny. My favorite is the male and female nudes. Enjoy!

Yes Michael --

Every small town has it's flock of self-appointed civic citizens who find good things for SOMEONE ELSE to do.

After enduring 25 years of American tax cuts I'm sure your parks and rec department is just going to jump on your idea and get right on it. Not.

Why not go to your local hardware store, buy a case of spray paint, and fix it yourself FOR your community instead of just running it down all the time?

I can't tell which is the male and which is the female. Maybe they're hermaphrodites?

So all you guys (excepting Dude) think it's OK and FUNNY to have a town's playground vandalized in such a manner?

It's not that we think this is OK, but doesn't it occur to you that if Michael were caught with a can of spray paint - even if his intentions were to cover the graffitti - he himself would likely be cited for vandalism?

Update to anyone who cares: today I spoke with a city offical about the vandalism and they were aware of the graffiti and are working with the Crescent City Jaycees to remove it. Apparently a group of volunteers is scheduled to work removing it this coming Saturday, and seeing that I have this Saturday off, just may go down and help them.

Don't forget to go down and help out Saturday Man, 'tis important! Volunteering with no immediate reward, but the benefit of your community is one of the building blocks of a civilised society.
Or, think what fun the park is through the eyes of a five year old, especially if the park they play in is clean and safe.
Go fix up the park man, you might make some new mates (friends in non-Australian) and discover a whole new crowd to hang around with.
Also, perhaps it will show a side of your town that you miss because of whom you serve through the liquor stor???
